The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Maternity Sessions by Erica Grandin Photography, Frisco Maternity Photographer

As a Frisco newborn photographer, I may be more focused on families with newborns than many other things. However, if being a mom of three young kids and spending so much time photographing growing families has taught me anything, it’s that time FLIES. Pregnancy seems long, but it will be gone in a flash and I so encourage all expecting mamas to document your bump with a Frisco maternity photographer!

I know, I know. Maybe you’re uncomfortable. Perhaps you don’t feel like yourself. You might be counting down the days until this phase is over. Your body is changing by the day and it’s hard to know what to expect when you’re…well…expecting. While many moms-to-be hesitate to schedule a maternity session for these reasons (and more), I promise you’ll want to be able to look back at this special time one day. And that day will be here sooner than you think.

So, if I can share one piece of advice, please don’t let the fear of planning a maternity session keep you from booking one. I promise it is more manageable than you think.

In fact, I wrote up the who, what, when, where and why of booking a Frisco maternity session to break it down for you.

Your Photo Session with a Frisco Maternity Photographer

Who

You and your partner, any soon-to-be big brothers or sisters, and, yes, that includes four-legged siblings! They are a special part of your family, and fur babies are always welcome.

What

My maternity sessions are not only easy to book, but there are special packages available for moms-to-be who book both a maternity session and newborn photos with me. Look at it like a bulk discount. 😉

When

I recommend scheduling your maternity session when you’re within the 32-36 week range in your pregnancy. The bump is noticeable, your energy is still good and you’re feeling comfortable and excited. This also gives us a good cushion to allow for baby making their debut earlier than expected. It’s a great window – the sweet spot – for capturing your pregnancy!

Where

If you’re familiar with my work, you know that I love in-home sessions, and maternity is no different. But did you know I also offer maternity sessions outdoors, or at my studio? Each site offers a different aesthetic, and you get to choose the location that is the best fit for you! We will chat through all the options and I will share my list of recommended locations for you to choose from.

Why

At the risk of sounding dramatic, this is a pivotal life moment. Your life is about to change in the MOST special and spectacular way. Frankly, nothing is the same after your baby is born, and you’ll soon see it’s all for the better. But instead of rushing through this special time, take a moment to document it. Your future self will thank you for it.

Maternity photos give you a rare opportunity to stop and celebrate your pregnancy. Not in the beautiful-but-slightly-chaotic way one celebrates with so many at a baby shower..instead, you and your partner get a chance to slow down for a beat and celebrate each other. Your relationship. Your growing family. Your baby-to-be. Your body. Your connection. ALL.OF.IT.

If you already have kids, or an older sibling in the mix, maternity photos are a great way to make your big kids feel special before their new baby brother or sister arrives. Maternity sessions with families are always very kid-friendly (and kid-forward) and I encourage my families to snuggle up with their big kids, which they love. It’s a great chance for the spotlight to be on them for a moment before the family dynamic shifts with a newborn’s arrival.

One day, your litty bitty little one will be all grown up, and they will love seeing these photos. Think about high school graduation. Their wedding. All of these special life milestones we take photographs to remember, and why should being pregnant with them be any different? After all, it’s where it all began.

Maybe I’ve already convinced you of the importance of booking a maternity session for yourself, or maybe you still have questions. Either way, I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a line here to start the conversation!
