Top 5 Tips for Preparing for your Frisco Mini Session Photos – Erica Grandin Photography

If you’re the mom of a growing family, chances are, you’ll be preparing for your Frisco mini session photos sometime in the coming months. Mamas, if this is you, I want you to be prepared. Because even if you have the best photographer on the planet, or – ahem – the best family photographer in Frisco –  your level of preparation and attention to detail ahead of time will make all the difference for your upcoming mini session.

Because your involvement and organization makes a world of difference, I have put together my top five recommendations on how to get you and your family prepared for a great mini session.

Preparing for your Frisco Mini Session Photos

#1. Go screen-free

Yes, you read this right. Have your kids go screen-free at least 15 minutes ahead of your session time. You may have noticed that kids don’t exactly love to have their devices taken away, so doing so well before your session starts will ensure any tension is gone by the time the photographer begins snapping away. While you’re taking the screens away from your kiddos, put yours away too, and be engaged. Listen to some music you all love, and take a moment to dance and laugh with your littles. That good energy will flow into your session – and photographs!

#2. Be on time

If you do nothing else, plan your day around being 10 minutes early for your session. Frisco mini session photos are scheduled back to back. This means, if you’re late, that time bleeds into your already-brief session time and because the next family is on deck, you don’t get that time back.

#3. Let the kids be in charge

Know that your kids might say and do things that make you cringe during the session. Maybe there’s a bit of potty talk or too much fidgeting. But trust me when I say that this is not the time for discipline. The mood will shift and not for the better. Keep it light, and go with the flow. When in doubt, let the photographer lead. It’s literally our job to keep the energy light and fun and still capture those magic moments. A good family photographer knows that the kids are always in charge, and that going with their particular flow – whether they start off shy or greet you with a happy high-five – is the way to make them comfortable.

#4. Comfort and Coordination for Clothing

The ideal family wardrobe marries both comfort and coordination – it’s NOT matchy matchy. Two-three coordinating colors or shades tend to look the most cohesive in a family photograph. And while you can never be too dressed up for your Frisco mini session photos, your clothing does need to be comfortable. Because if everyone is comfortable, everyone will be happier. And that comfort and happiness will come through in your final images.

#5. Don’t be late

I know we covered this already, but it bears repeating: if you are late for your mini session, you lose that time. Trust me when I say, your photographer hates it as much – if not more – than you do. We love nothing more than to deliver a collection of memorable, cherished photos from each and every session, and we are better poised to do so when we have all the time allotted to capture them. So please don’t be late! Not to mention, if your mini session is outside we only have a limited amount of time before the sun is gone!
