May was a big month around here and I am celebrating a huge milestone this week:
Erica Grandin Photography is turning 1 year old! 🥳 Today I am sharing my top 5 take-aways as a DFW and Plano family photographer.
One year ago I launched my website, announced my new family photography business on social media, and became an expert (or not so much) on tax IDs, sales tax, and self-employment guidelines (the totally glamorous side of owning your own business).
A BIG THANK YOU to all of you for allowing me into your lives and homes to help document a small part of your story. I love meeting your new babies and playing with your big kids. I hope you have as much fun during your session as I do! And most importantly, I hope you love your photos.
Found My Community
So much more goes into a photography business than taking pretty pictures. For every hour long session, I spend 8-9 hours behind the scenes working on session prep, editing, ordering prints, marketing, and creating content, among lots of other things. That is a lot of time spent alone at my computer! I have been so happy to find a wonderful community of other family photographers through my mentorship group. It stretches me to learn new things, encourages creativity, and creates community in an industry that is usually spent alone.
Honed My Style | Plano Family Photographer
There are so many photographers out there that can give you all different types of photos. It has been important to me that I find my own style and take photos that I love. That might mean that I don’t work with every single client and that is okay. I would rather find clients who love the work that I produce and that I know I can make happy!
I am a lifestyle photographer for mothers. I love working with young families. I want to show genuine emotion, laughter, and movement in your photos.
Meeting Your Babies
There is nothing I love more than meeting your new babies. Watching you grow your family and documenting those first few weeks of bringing your baby home is super special to me. If I could photograph newborns all day every day, I would! I am excited to be adding First 48 sessions to my session offerings as hospitals open to additional visitors, allowing us to document your baby’s first few hours.
Saw Grandparents Reunite with Grandkids
So many people missed their families in 2020. As travel restrictions were lowered and vaccinations increased, I saw a huge request for extended family sessions! Grandparents who hadn’t seen their grandkids in almost a year. Families who had to cancel reunions. Most of us don’t get photos with our extended family very often so I know these families will hold onto these photos for generations.
Turned Friends into Clients and Clients into Friends | Plano Family Photographer
I feel so honored when a good friend asks me to photograph their family! It’s a little extra pressure but also extra special and always turns into a good time. Several clients have turned into friends in the past year and friends have turned into clients
